إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْنِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
"Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return. O Allah, grant me reward in my affliction and recompense me with something better."
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlifnī khayran minhā.
When to Read
Recite this dua immediately upon facing the loss of your career or business, or any significant setback. It's particularly powerful when the shock is fresh and you need to anchor yourself in Allah's will.
How to Read
Recite with sincere conviction, acknowledging that everything comes from Allah and will return to Him. Say it with a heart that is seeking Allah's reward and trusting His plan for a better outcome. It can be recited once, or repeated for comfort and strength.
Virtues & Benefits
This is the supplication of the one who suffers a calamity. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us that whoever says this when afflicted will be rewarded by Allah for their loss and will be granted something better in return. This reflects the core Islamic principle of *sabrun jameel* (beautiful patience) and trusting Allah's decree, knowing that even in loss, there is immense good and a higher purpose planned by the Most Merciful.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'There is no Muslim who is afflicted by a calamity and asks Allah for his reward, saying: "*Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlifnī khayran minhā*" (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return. O Allah, grant me reward in my affliction and recompense me with something better) – but Allah will grant him reward for his affliction and will give him something better in exchange.' Umm Salamah said: 'When Abu Salama died, I uttered it (the words of the dua) as I was commanded by the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and Allah gave me something better in exchange, for I was given (the honor of being married to) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)." (Sahih Muslim 918)
