Old Age & Elderly
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2710

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, and from the evil of His servants, and from the evil whispers of Shaitaan and from their [evil] presence.

A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabihi, wa min sharri 'ibadihi, wa min hamazatish-shayateeni wa an yahdurun

When to Read

This dua is especially potent when one feels their resolve weakening, when intrusive thoughts arise, or as a general shield against Shaitaan's influence, particularly as one ages and may feel more vulnerable. It can be recited at any time, but especially upon waking, before sleeping, or when feeling overwhelmed by negative suggestions.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction and a clear intention to seek Allah's protection. Focus on the meaning of the words, understanding that true refuge is only with Allah. It is recommended to recite it three times in the morning and three times in the evening, as taught by the Prophet ﷺ, to gain comprehensive protection.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encapsulates seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, which encompass all His attributes and decrees. It specifically shields one from Shaitaan's whispers ('hamazat'), which are those insidious suggestions that can lead to doubt, sin, or despair. As we grow older, Shaitaan may intensify his efforts to mislead us, making this seeking of refuge particularly crucial for maintaining our faith and peace of mind.
