رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاءِ
My Lord, grant me from Yourself an excellent offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.
Rabbi hab li mil-ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah, innaka samee'ud-du'a.
When to Read
This dua is incredibly poignant, reflecting Prophet Zakariya's (peace be upon him) deep longing for a child even in his advanced years. We can recite this when we feel a similar yearning for righteous offspring, or indeed for any sincere need that seems difficult to attain, remembering that Allah is the Hearer of all prayers. It's a powerful supplication to make during the blessed times, like the last third of the night, or after prayers.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention, humility, and complete reliance on Allah. Focus on the meaning of the words: acknowledging Allah's power to grant what seems impossible, and affirming His attribute as the All-Hearing. Like Prophet Zakariya, ensure your intention is for a 'tayyibah' – a pure, righteous, and good offspring, which benefits both this life and the next. Make this a regular part of your personal supplications.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit is seeking Allah's favour in granting righteous children, a source of joy and a continuation of good deeds. By emulating Prophet Zakariya's (peace be upon him) persistence and sincerity, we learn the profound importance of supplication, especially when facing what appear to be insurmountable circumstances. This dua highlights Allah's mercy and His willingness to answer those who turn to Him, regardless of their age or the apparent difficulty of their requests. It reminds us that all blessings come from Allah alone.
