How to Read

Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies a deep understanding of the Day of Judgment and a sincere plea for Allah's mercy. For the elderly, it offers profound peace by focusing on the most significant event in their life's journey. Allah's mercy is vast, and seeking a 'light account' is a sign of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that a light account means Allah will not scrutinize one's deeds extensively but will instead overlook minor shortcomings. This is a great blessing, granting entry into Jannah through Allah's grace. The context of this hadith also highlights the Prophet's ﷺ concern for his Ummah and his earnest supplications for them.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about 'a light account' (hisaban yaseeran). He replied: 'It is that he looks at his record and passes over his bad deeds. Then, he will be told: 'You have such and such good deeds.' So he will be told and his record will be shown to him, and whoever is called to account lightly will be punished lightly, and whoever is called to account heavily will be punished heavily.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 4039). This narration from Tirmidhi, graded Hasan, explains the profound meaning of this supplication.
