Make this dua with sincerity and conviction. Raise your hands as you would for other supplications. When we are elderly, striving for accepted deeds is paramount.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked what she should say to Allah, encapsulates a holistic request for a life well-lived. Seeking 'beneficial knowledge' helps us to continue learning and guiding others, even in old age. Asking for 'good provision' ensures our needs are met in a lawful way, allowing us to focus on service without undue worry. Most importantly, requesting 'accepted deeds' is the ultimate goal, as it means our efforts, no matter how small, are valued by Allah. This keeps the spirit of contribution alive.
Source & Authentication
The mother of the believers, Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), said: "O Messenger of Allah, what prevents me from frequenting the Ka'bah after my departure?" He said: "We have been commanded to circumambulate the Ka'bah, and that is it. You have circumambulated. So, when the nights of the Ka'bah end, and you have departed, say: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.'" So when the nights of the Ka'bah ended, and she departed, she said: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.'
