Old Age & Elderly
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3847

O Allah, forgive me my all sins, the minor and the major, the first and the last, the open and the secret. And do not cut me off from the benefits of this world and the Hereafter because of them. O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in Your command, certainty in Your decree, willingness to accept Your decree, gratitude in times of ease, and praise to You in all circumstances.

Allahumma inni as'aluk-a s-sabra 'ala amrik, wa-l-yaqeena bi qada'ik, wa-l-hawa li qada'ik, wa-sh-shukra 'inda r-rakha', wa-l-hamda laka 'ala kulli haalin.

Recite with sincere intention and a humble heart. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly while making dua, as you would during prayer. Face the Qiblah if possible. Focus on the meaning of the words and the profound requests being made to Allah (SWT). It is best to make this dua when you are in a state of purity.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's forgiveness for all sins, acknowledging that these might hinder our worldly and otherworldly needs. More importantly, it is a powerful plea for the spiritual strength to navigate the challenges of aging and declining health. By asking for 'sabrun 'ala amrik' (patience with Your command), we are seeking contentment with Allah's plan and decree. Asking for 'yaqeena bi qada'ik' (certainty in Your decree) strengthens our faith that whatever Allah ordains is for our ultimate good. The request for 'al-hawa li qada'ik' (willingness to accept Your decree) signifies a deep surrender to His will. Finally, seeking 'shukra 'inda r-rakha'' (gratitude in times of ease) and 'al-hamda laka 'ala kulli haalin' (praise to You in all circumstances) cultivates a consistently thankful disposition, a cornerstone of true faith. This dua cultivates resilience and contentment, turning potential trials into opportunities for spiritual growth.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to command us to supplicate, and he would mention for us that Allah says: 'I have prepared for My servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived.' Abu Hurairah said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach us this supplication: "Allahumma-ghfir li dhanbi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, awwalahu wa akhirahu, 'alaniyatahu wa sirrahu. Allahumma inni as'aluk-a al-fir'ata wa-l-huda wa-t-taqa wa-l-'afafa wa-l-ghina." [O Allah, forgive me my sin, the minor and the major, the first and the last, the open and the secret. O Allah, I ask You for the paradise and guidance, piety and chastity, and richness].' And he (Abu Hurairah) said: 'And he taught us this supplication: "Allahumma inni as'aluk-a s-sabra 'ala amrik, wa-l-yaqeena bi qada'ik, wa-l-hawa li qada'ik, wa-sh-shukra 'inda r-rakha', wa-l-hamda laka 'ala kulli haalin."' And he said: 'And he said: "And seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Fire, and seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave." He also said: 'And when any of you supplicates, he should be firm in his request, and say: 'O Allah, grant me...' and not say: 'O Allah, if You wish, then give me,' because there is no compulsion for Allah.'
