اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
O Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner.
Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik
When to Read
This is a profound dua that can be recited at any time, but it's particularly poignant to invoke this supplication as we age. When our physical strength might wane, or our minds become occupied with the concerns of later life, this dua is a direct plea to Allah for the inner fortitude needed to remain steadfast in His remembrance and worship. It's perfect after prayers, when you're reflecting, or simply whenever you feel the need for that spiritual boost to keep your connection with Allah strong.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you would during supplication, focusing on the meaning of each word. It's best recited after completing your obligatory prayers (salah), as this is a time when supplications are known to be readily accepted. However, its beauty lies in its flexibility; whenever you feel the need to ask Allah for assistance in remembering and worshipping Him, you can utter these words.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a comprehensive request for the spiritual well-being necessary for a life dedicated to Allah. By asking for help with 'dhikr' (remembrance), 'shukr' (gratitude), and 'husn 'ibadah' (excellent worship), we are seeking the ability to maintain a vibrant connection with our Creator, regardless of our age or circumstances. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself taught this dua, highlighting its immense importance. It ensures that even as the body ages and becomes less capable, the spirit remains active and engaged in devotion, seeking Allah’s pleasure. It is a foundational supplication for a life lived in constant awareness and service of Allah.

The Companion Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ took hold of his hand and said, "O Mu'adh, by Allah, I love you, so I advise you, O Mu'adh, do not miss saying after every prayer: O Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best manner."
