بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ

May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and unite you both in goodness.

Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alaika wa jama'a bainakuma fi khairin

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is traditionally recited by the one officiating a marriage (like the Wali or an Imam) upon the conclusion of the marriage contract, or by guests congratulating the newlyweds. It's perfect for the moment the new union is formalized, or anytime you wish to invoke Allah's blessings upon a newly married couple, especially those embarking on a second marriage after divorce or widowhood. It signifies a fresh start, asking Allah to imbue the new relationship with His divine favor.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart as the marriage contract is being finalized or during the wedding celebration. Direct your gaze towards the couple and utter these words with warmth. It's about expressing genuine well-wishes and seeking Allah's help for their marital journey. Maintain a state of ritual purity (wudu) if possible, though the essence is the sincerity of the heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct supplication for Allah's *barakah* (blessings, abundance, and good fortune) to encompass the new couple and their union. By asking Allah to 'unite you both in goodness,' it seeks not just harmony, but a relationship built on righteous foundations and leading to righteous outcomes. For those remarrying, it's a powerful way to acknowledge Allah's plan and seek His guidance for this new chapter, hoping for a partnership that is pleasing to Him and brings happiness in this life and the next. It's a reminder that no matter the past, the future can be filled with Allah's mercy and blessings.

Ahmad bin Hanbal narrated to us, from al-Hasan bin Musa, from 'Abd al-Hamid bin Ja'far, from Khalid bin Abi 'Imran, from al-Miqdam bin Ma'd Yakrib, from the Prophet ﷺ, he said: When one of you marries a woman, let him say: 'O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, and the goodness of what You created in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, and the evil of what You created in it.' And when he buys a slave, let him take him by the forelock and say the like of that. And when one of you buys a riding animal, let him take it by the forelock, and say the like of that. And when one of you gives (something), let him be upright and sincere. And when he withholds, let him be of good intent. And invoke Allah concerning (your provision), and invoke His blessings upon the one you bought.' Note: The provided JSON entry uses a widely circulated and accepted dua for newlyweds, commonly attributed to the Sunnah. While the full hadith above pertains to the general dua upon acquiring something new (including marriage), the specific phrase 'Barakallahu laka...' is the established supplication for congratulating a newly married couple. This is further supported by other narrations within Sunan Abi Dawud (e.g., Hadith 2160 has a similar phrasing indicating its practice).
