Marriage & Wedding
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your well-being, the sudden of Your punishment, and all that You are displeased with. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief. I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. And I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-hammi wal-hazan, wa a'udhu bika min al-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika min al-jubni wal-buhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is particularly relevant when facing financial struggles that threaten the peace and stability of your marriage. It's beneficial to recite it regularly, especially after Fajr and Asr prayers, or during times of heightened financial anxiety. Making it a habit can invoke Allah's protection over your family and relationship.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Face the Qiblah if possible, and raise your hands as is the Sunnah when making dua. Focus on the meaning of the words, truly seeking Allah's refuge from these afflictions. Consistency is key; make it part of your daily remembrance.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates seeking refuge from many worldly and personal struggles that can strain a marriage. Specifically seeking protection from 'the burden of debt and the overpowering of men' (غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ) directly addresses potential financial pressures that can lead to conflict and breakdown in a marital relationship. It is a powerful supplication for overall well-being and resilience.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach this dua to his companions, saying: 'None of you should say: O Allah, give me what you will, give me sustenance. For there is no one to compel Allah and no one to beg from Allah what He gives or withholds. And the begging is only from Allah. And the most excellent sustenance is that which is sufficient.' Then he taught them to say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the Hellfire, and from the torment of the grave, and from the trial of the Dajjal, and from the trials of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sin and debt.' A man said to him: 'O Allah's Apostle! You seek refuge from debt?' He replied: 'Yes, indeed. A person burdened with debt speaks, and lies, and makes promises, and breaks them.' (This longer version includes seeking refuge from sin and debt, with the explanation of why debt is feared. The shorter version provided in the primary fields covers a broader scope of protection relevant to marital stability).
