Marriage & Wedding
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 771

O Allah, guide me to the best of character, for none can guide to the best of it except You. And divert me from bad character, for none can divert from bad it except You.

Allahumma ihdini li ahsanil akhlaqi la yahdi li ahsaniha illa anta, wasrif 'anni sayyi'aha la yasrifu 'anni sayyi'aha illa anta

When to Read

This dua is powerful for anyone seeking personal improvement in character, and it's especially relevant when praying for your spouse. You can recite it anytime, particularly during your daily prayers, after your obligatory prayers, or during the times when dua is readily accepted, like the last third of the night or between the adhan and iqamah. Making it a consistent part of your supplication shows your sincere desire for your partner's well-being and the harmony of your marriage.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and complete reliance on Allah. It’s beautiful to say this dua directly for your spouse, or to say it for yourself while intending for your spouse to benefit from its essence, as personal growth often has a ripple effect. Raise your hands as you normally would for dua, face the Qiblah if possible, and supplicate with humility and conviction. Remember, Allah loves those who consistently turn to Him.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking Allah's guidance for good character is a direct path to pleasing Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that the best believers are those with the best character (Sahih al-Bukhari 3559). By making this dua, you are actively seeking for your spouse (and yourself) to embody the noble traits that Allah and His Messenger ﷺ have praised. This can lead to a more peaceful, understanding, and loving relationship, as good character naturally softens hearts and resolves conflicts.
