Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for seeking a spouse, encompasses seeking the best qualities and seeking protection from negative inclinations. By asking for the 'goodness of what You have naturally inclined her to,' you are essentially asking Allah to bring forth and strengthen positive traits within your spouse that are conducive to a committed and loving relationship. Simultaneously, seeking refuge from 'the evil of what You have naturally inclined her to' is a protection against any inherent fears or reservations that might hinder commitment. It’s a holistic prayer for a spouse whose character is pleasing to Allah and who is guided by Him towards a strong bond.

When one of you marries a woman, he should take her by the forelock and ask her to protect herself from him, and supplicate: O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have naturally inclined her to, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have naturally inclined her to. And when one of you buys a camel, he should take it by the forelock and ask for the same supplication. And when one of you buys a slave, he should take him by the forelock and ask for the same supplication. (Sahih Muslim 2088)
