Marriage & Wedding
Sahih HadithSahih Ibn Hibban 737

O Allah, unite our hearts, mend the discord between us, guide us to the paths of peace, deliver us from darkness to the light, keep us away from all shameful deeds, outward and inward, and bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our spouses, and our offspring. Turn to us, for indeed, You are the Ever-Returning, the Most Merciful.

Allahumma allif bayna qulubina, wa aslih dhata baynina, wahdina subulas-salami, wa najjina minadh-dhulumati ilan-nur, wa jannibnal-fawahisha ma dhahara minha wa ma batana, wa barik lana fi asma'ina, wa absarina, wa qulubina, wa azwajina, wa dhurriyyatina, wa tub 'alayna, innaka Antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.

When to Read

This is a beautiful comprehensive dua that can be recited regularly in your daily prayers, especially after Fardh prayers, or at times when you feel there is a need for increased harmony and understanding within the marriage. It is also highly beneficial to make this dua during the blessed times, such as the last third of the night, during Ramadan, or on a Friday.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and deep reflection on its meaning. Focus on the words, visualizing the blessings of unity, guidance, and protection being bestowed upon your husband and your marital relationship. Making it consistently, especially in sujood (prostration) or after completing your prayers, can amplify its effect. Remember to also embody the spirit of the dua through your own actions and conduct within the marriage.

Virtues & Benefits

This profound supplication encompasses a holistic request for marital well-being. It seeks Allah's intervention to foster love and understanding ('unite our hearts'), resolve any existing issues ('mend the discord'), and guide both spouses towards righteous paths ('guide us to the paths of peace'). The dua also asks for protection from sin and wrongdoing ('keep us away from all shameful deeds') and asks for blessings in the fundamental aspects of life that contribute to a happy home, including the spouse and children ('bless... our spouses, and our offspring'). Its comprehensive nature makes it a powerful tool for a wife seeking divine support for her husband in fulfilling his responsibilities and for the overall health of the marriage.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Hibban narrated in his Sahih (737), from Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whenever the people of a household become corrupt, Allah sends down afflictions upon them.' Then he narrated a similar hadith and mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to teach them this dua: 'Allahumma allif bayna qulubina, wa aslih dhata baynina, wahdina subulas-salami, wa najjina minadh-dhulumati ilan-nur, wa jannibnal-fawahisha ma dhahara minha wa ma batana, wa barik lana fi asma'ina, wa absarina, wa qulubina, wa azwajina, wa dhurriyyatina, wa tub 'alayna, innaka Antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.' (O Allah, unite our hearts, mend the discord between us, guide us to the paths of peace, deliver us from darkness to the light, keep us away from all shameful deeds, outward and inward, and bless our hearing, our sight, our hearts, our spouses, and our offspring. Turn to us, for indeed, You are the Ever-Returning, the Most Merciful.) This hadith, while discussing familial harmony and rectification, implies the importance of seeking Allah's help for all members of the household, including the husband, in fulfilling their roles and maintaining righteous conduct.
