بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ

May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and unite you both in goodness.

Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alaika wa jama'a bainakuma fi khairin

When to Read

This beautiful dua is traditionally recited by guests upon witnessing a wedding ceremony or when congratulating a newly married couple. It's also a wonderful dua for the couple to recite together privately, especially in the initial days of their marriage, to invoke Allah's blessings upon their union and set a spiritual tone from the start.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and heartfelt intention, directing your supplication to Allah (SWT). Face the Qiblah if possible. When reciting for others, it's meant as a sincere wish and prayer for their well-being. For yourselves, recite it together, holding hands or with heads bowed, imbuing your new life with divine grace.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive prayer for a marriage. 'Barakallahu laka' seeks Allah's abundant goodness and favor specifically for the husband. 'Wa baraka 'alaika' extends this blessing to the wife. 'Wa jama'a bainakuma fi khairin' is a profound request for Allah to keep them united in all aspects of life, in ways that are pleasing to Him, fostering harmony, love, and mutual support throughout their journey together. It plants the seeds of spiritual connection and reliance on Allah from the very beginning of married life.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us this supplication when he attended a wedding. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) married someone, or when a wedding took place among his companions, he would say: 'Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alaika wa jama'a bainakuma fi khairin.' (May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and unite you both in goodness.)
