اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant when recited during the blessed hours of Tahajjud, especially when facing trials or uncertainties. The stillness of the night, coupled with the act of waking for prayer, creates a sacred space to connect with Allah and seek His wisdom and guidance in understanding His decree, even when it's difficult to comprehend. It's a prayer for clarity amidst the fog of hardship.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt plea to Allah. As you are in prayer during Tahajjud, or even after you've offered your prayers, raise your hands and make this supplication. It's essential to believe that Allah has the power to grant you understanding and peace. Focus on the meaning of each word and let it resonate within your heart. The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate this upon waking for prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua encapsulates three core requests vital for a Muslim's life, especially during difficult times. Beneficial knowledge ('ilman naafi'an) helps us navigate life's complexities with wisdom, leading us to make sound decisions. Good provision (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that what we receive is pure and brings blessings, alleviating worldly anxieties. Most importantly, accepted deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan) signifies that our efforts in pleasing Allah are acknowledged and rewarded, offering immense comfort and reassurance, especially when our actions feel overshadowed by trials. When Allah accepts our deeds, it's a sign of His pleasure and can bring peace to our hearts even in hardship, helping us to accept His will.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: When the Prophet (ﷺ) used to wake up for Tahajjud prayer, he would say: 'O Allah, Lord of Jibrā'īl and Mīkā'īl and Isrāfīl, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and that which is apparent, You are the final judge between Your servants in that over which they differed. Guide me to the truth which they differed with Your permission, for verily You guide whom You will to the straight path.' Then he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.)
