O Allah, teach me the interpretation of narrations, and enlighten me with the knowledge of what was and what will be, and protect me from the evil of this world and the hereafter, and make me among Your righteous servants, and inspire me with my guidance, and protect me from the evil of my soul.

Source & Authentication
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: I spent a night with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). I stood up and prayed. He (ﷺ) said: 'What is this prayer?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I seek the good that is with Allah.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'This is a night of heavy breathing.' He said: 'I stood up and prayed, and he (ﷺ) said: 'Go back and pray.' So I went back and prayed. Then he (ﷺ) said: 'Go back and pray.' So I went back and prayed. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Do you want to pray for wisdom?' I said: 'Yes.' So he (ﷺ) took my hand and said: 'Say: O Allah, teach me the interpretation of narrations (or dreams).' (This narration emphasizes seeking interpretation of *ahadith* or *ahlam* (dreams), highlighting the Prophet's ﷺ approval of seeking such knowledge, and provides the core request for the dua. The fuller version from Tirmidhi includes the request for knowledge of past and future, protection, righteousness, guidance, and protection from the self.)
