When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly beneficial to recite during the quiet, vulnerable hours of night worship, especially before sleeping or during periods of intense spiritual focus like Tahajjud. When you're engrossed in devotion, you're drawing closer to Allah, and it's a natural time to seek His ultimate protection from any malevolent forces, including envy and the evil eye which can sometimes try to disrupt our connection with our Creator.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, focusing on the meaning and trusting in Allah's protection. It's recommended to recite it three times in the evening and three times in the morning for comprehensive protection. During night worship, you can integrate it into your personal supplications (duas) after your prayers or before you rest, repeating it with full conviction.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a shield against all forms of evil created by Allah. The 'perfect words of Allah' encompass all divine knowledge and power, making this a comprehensive refuge. By seeking refuge in them, you are acknowledging Allah's absolute sovereignty and His ability to ward off harm. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a means of protection against unseen evils, including the effects of envy and the evil eye, which can cause distress or misfortune.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I was afflicted by a scorpion's sting last night.' He said: 'Had you said, when evening came: أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), it would not have harmed you.' - Sahih Muslim 2708. Although the context of the hadith is a scorpion sting, the Prophet's ﷺ general instruction for this dua signifies its broad protective power against all created evils.
