O Allah, forgive [Name of deceased] son of [Father's name], and elevate his rank among those who are guided. And leave behind for his offspring, those who will remain. And forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. And broaden his grave for him and illuminate it for him.
Allahummaghfir li Fulan ibn Fulan, warfa' darajatahu fil mahdiyyeen, wakh-lufhu fi 'aqibihi fil ghabireen. Waghfir lana wa lahu ya Rabb al-'alamin, wafsah lahu fi qabrihi wa nawwir lahu feeh.

How to Read
After reciting the mandatory night prayers, when you stand for Tahajjud, make sincere supplication to Allah. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands, and humbly beseech Allah, replacing 'Fulan ibn Fulan' with the name of the deceased. Be heartfelt and specific in your requests for their forgiveness, mercy, and a spacious, illuminated grave.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua during Tahajjud is a profound act of worship that benefits the deceased immensely. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this supplication, highlighting its power to seek forgiveness and elevation for the departed. It demonstrates our responsibility towards fellow Muslims even after they have left this world, fostering a connection of brotherhood and sisterhood in faith. The night prayer itself is a time of immense spiritual elevation and closeness to Allah, making supplications offered during this time particularly potent.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that when Abu Salamah died, I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the men from my family are attending the funeral, and I should not be present, and I am saying, 'O Allah, grant me better than him, and do not let my heart deviate.'" The Prophet ﷺ said: "O Allah, forgive Abu Salamah, raise his rank among those who are guided, and grant him a successor from his descendants who will take care of them. And forgive me and him, O Lord of the worlds." And he said: "And broaden his grave and illuminate it for him."
