O Allah, guide us to the best of character, for none can guide to the best of it except You, and turn us away from evil character, for none can turn away from evil of it except You.
Allahumma ihdina li-ahsani-l-akhlaqi la yahdi li-ahsaniha illa anta, wa-srif 'anna sayyi'aha la yasrifu 'anna sayyi'aha illa anta.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when recited during the blessed hours of Tahajjud, the night prayer. When facing disagreements, feeling discord in relationships, or seeking clarity on how to best resolve conflicts justly and with mercy, turning to Allah in the quietude of the night is profoundly effective. It's a time when hearts are softer and supplications are believed to ascend more readily.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and heartfelt intention during your Tahajjud prayer. Focus on the meaning as you utter the words, envisioning Allah's power to transform hearts and situations. It can be recited at the end of your prayer, during sujood (prostration), or at any point when you feel the need to seek Allah's guidance in resolving disputes and fostering peace. Remember to maintain your wudu and face the Qiblah if reciting in a formal prayer setting.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's guidance for the best character directly addresses the root of many disputes. Good character, embodying patience, kindness, forgiveness, and wisdom, is essential for resolving disagreements harmoniously. By asking Allah to turn us away from evil character, we protect ourselves from arrogance, anger, and harshness that often escalate conflicts. This dua, made during Tahajjud, taps into the immense blessings of night worship, a time when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and answers prayers. It helps purify our intentions and actions, leading to better interactions and stronger bonds within the community.
