Night Worship & Tahajjud
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3833

اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي، وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي، وَزِدْنِي عِلْمًا

O Allah, benefit me from what You have taught me, teach me that which will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge.

Allahumma-nf'ani bima 'allamtani, wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni, wa zidni 'ilman

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when recited during Tahajjud, the voluntary night prayer. The stillness and focus of this time, coupled with sincere supplication, create an ideal environment for asking Allah for clarity of mind and a strong grasp of knowledge. You can make this dua after your prayer or at any point during your Tahajjud where you feel a connection and need for seeking increased understanding and remembrance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Visualize yourself benefiting from the knowledge you are seeking. Raise your hands in supplication, as is the Sunnah during dua. Speak the words clearly, reflecting on their meaning. Ensure you are in a state of purity, if possible, and facing the Qiblah. The emphasis is on sincerity and connecting with Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive supplication for seeking beneficial knowledge and its retention. By asking Allah to make us benefit from what we already know, we're asking for the wisdom to apply it. Asking Him to teach us what benefits us points us towards true, impactful learning. And requesting an increase in knowledge acknowledges that learning is a lifelong journey. This prayer is especially relevant during Tahajjud, a time when the servant is closest to their Lord, making supplications more likely to be answered.
