اللَّهُمَّ فَقِّهْنِي فِي الدِّينِ وَعَلِّمْنِي التَّأْوِيلَ
O Allah, grant me understanding in religion and teach me the interpretation (of the Quran).
Allahumma faqqihni fid-deen wa 'allimnit-ta'weel
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when recited during Tahajjud (the night prayer). The stillness and devotion of this time create a unique atmosphere for seeking profound knowledge and understanding from Allah. It can be recited at any point during Tahajjud, perhaps after completing a portion of the prayer or during sujood (prostration), when one is closest to their Lord.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, embodying the humility of a student seeking knowledge from the Ultimate Teacher. Raise your hands, as is customary when making dua, and implore Allah with a hopeful heart. Reflect on the meaning of the words as you speak them, internalizing the plea for divine insight into the deen (religion) and the ability to grasp its deeper meanings.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking knowledge of the religion is a highly praised act in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ supplicated for this very thing, highlighting its immense importance. By asking Allah to grant understanding, we are actively pursuing a way to correctly worship Him, understand His commands, and live according to His guidance. This leads to increased Taqwa (God-consciousness), better decision-making in life, and ultimately, a stronger connection with our Creator.
