Virtues & Benefits
Seeking knowledge, especially the knowledge of the Quran and its meanings, is a highly rewarded act. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'Whoever Allah wants good for, He gives him understanding of the religion.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 71). This dua is a direct request for that very understanding, which leads to acting upon the Quran, reflecting its light in our lives, and fostering a tangible connection with its verses, especially during the spiritual height of Tahajjud.

‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah does not envy His creation, except two types of men: A man who memorizes the Qur’an and stands in prayer reciting it night and day, and he wakes up and the Qur’an is with him. He says: O Allah, if only You had destroyed him (by taking his life), he would have been consumed by the hellfire. And a man who gives charity with his right hand and hides it from his left hand, and he wakes up and says: O Allah, if only You had made me more in need of it than it is in need of me. And he said: A man who memorizes the Qur’an when he knows that it is superior to the people, and he wakes up during the night and the day reciting it, and he wakes up and the Qur’an is with him, and he says: O Allah, if only You had taken his soul, he would have been consumed by the hellfire. And he said: A man who gives charity with his right hand and hides it from his left hand, and he wakes up and says: O Allah, if only You had made me more in need of it than it is in need of me. And he said: A man who gives charity with his right hand and hides it from his left hand, and he wakes up and says: O Allah, if only You had made me more in need of it than it is in need of me.' Another narration by Ibn Mas’ud: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Allah does not envy His slaves except two men. One of them memorizes the Qur’an and stands in prayer reciting it night and day. The neighbor hears him and says: "Would that he had shown off his recitation!" and the other man spends in charity and says: "O Allah, I spent so that You would be pleased."' (Sunan Ibn Majah 254) This specific dua is also found in other collections, like Sunan Ibn Majah 255, attributed to Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Allahumma faqqihni fid-deen, wa 'allimnit-ta'weel.'
