Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a beautiful articulation of Tawakkul (trust and reliance on Allah). When you say this, you are essentially handing over the reins of your endeavor to Allah, acknowledging that without His help, no undertaking can succeed. It brings peace of mind, knowing you are not alone, and seeks Allah's barakah (blessing) in your efforts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a means to be guided, protected, and sufficed from all harm concerning the task at hand. An angel is said to respond to this declaration, reassuring the reciter that they will be guided and protected.
Source & Authentication
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When a person goes out of his house saying: 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah,' it is said to him: 'You have been sufficed, you have been guided, and you have been protected.' So the devil turns away from him. Another devil says to him: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, sufficed, and protected?'" — Sunan Abi Dawud 5095, Sunan An-Nasa'i 8165. Al-Albani graded it Sahih.
