O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness of what is within it, and the goodness of its people. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is within it, and the evil of its people.
Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha.
When to Read
This dua is recited when entering a new place that you will be working in, such as a new office building, a new workplace, or even starting a new job that requires you to be in a different environment. It's a comprehensive supplication seeking the best of the new situation and protection from its potential harms.
How to Read
Recite this dua before you enter your new workplace or on your first day. It's best to say it with sincerity and a clear intention, asking Allah for barakah (blessings) and protection. Facing the direction of the Qiblah is not a requirement here, but a mindful heart and earnest supplication are key.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a seeker's reliance on Allah. By asking for the 'goodness' of the place, its people, and its contents, you are entrusting your new endeavor to the Creator. Simultaneously, seeking refuge from its 'evil' acknowledges that any situation can have unforeseen challenges. This holistic approach, seeking both benefit and protection, reflects the Sunnah of seeking Allah's favor in all aspects of life.
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When any of you travels and stays in a place, he should say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhihi as-safari wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min al-hadhi wal-wa'ba'. And when he stays in a valley, he should seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the valley and its inhabitants.' This narration is slightly different but carries the same essence of seeking good and refuge when entering a new place or environment. The version above is specifically tailored for entering a new workplace.
