Dua for Starting a New Business: Seeking Allah's Guidance and Blessing

New Beginnings
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 4924

O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this matter and the goodness of what is in it and the goodness of what it was sent with. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this matter and the evil of what is in it and the evil of what it was sent with. O Allah, if You know this matter to be good, then grant it to me and make it easy for me. And if You know this matter to be evil, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me whatever good may be, and make me content with it.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khaira hadhal-amri wa khaira ma fihi wa khaira ma ursila bihi, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhal-amri wa sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ursila bihi. Allahumma fa'in 'arafta hadhal-amra khairan farzuqnihi wa yassirhu li, wa in 'arafta hadhal-amra sharran fasrifhu 'anni wasrifni 'anhu, wagdir liyal-khaira haithu kana thumma radhdhini bihi.

This comprehensive dua covers seeking the best outcome ('khair') and protection from harm ('sharr') for any undertaking. By reciting it, you are entrusting your new venture to Allah, acknowledging His ultimate control and wisdom. It helps to align your personal aspirations with Allah's will, fostering contentment and reducing anxiety about the unknown future of your business. It's a practice that brings barakah (blessing) and ease.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us to seek guidance from Allah in all matters, just as he taught us chapters of the Quran. He would supplicate in many situations, and this dua is a profound supplication for seeking the best in any new endeavor. It is narrated that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) intended to embark on an important task, he would seek Allah's guidance and the best of what that task held, and seek refuge from its evil, as found in the collections of Sunan Abi Dawud and Sunan Ibn Majah.
