In the name of Allah, O Allah, I ask You for its goodness, the goodness of its inhabitants, and the goodness of whatever it contains. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its inhabitants, and the evil of whatever it contains.
Bismillah, Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ahliha wa khayra ma fiha, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha wa sharri ma fiha.
When to Read
This dua is perfect for reciting just before you begin any new construction project, whether it's a home, a mosque, an office, or any other building. It should be said when you are physically present at the site, ready to commence work, or when signing contracts and making the initial commitments.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction, keeping the intention of seeking Allah's blessings and protection for the project. It is best recited while facing the direction of the construction site, with hands raised in supplication, as you would with any earnest dua. Ensure you are in a state of ritual purity (wudu) if possible, though the primary emphasis is on the heart's connection with Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a profound way to invoke Allah's grace upon new ventures. By starting with 'Bismillah,' we acknowledge that all power and strength come from Him. Asking for the 'goodness' of the building, its people, and its contents, and seeking refuge from its 'evil,' is a comprehensive request for well-being and safety. It reflects the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ teaching that seeking refuge in Allah is a powerful shield against harm and a gateway to blessings.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ‘When any of you goes to an abode, he should say: ‘O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of its inhabitants, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of its inhabitants.’ And when he goes to market and stays in it, he should say the like of that.’
