This supplication encapsulates a holistic request for Allah's favor. Forgiveness (ghufr) seeks to cover our sins. Mercy (rahmah) is the ocean of Allah's kindness that encompasses all creation. Guidance (hidayah) is essential for navigating life's choices, especially in seeking a life partner. Well-being ('afiyah) covers physical, mental, and spiritual health, crucial for a stable relationship. Provision (rizq) includes all forms of sustenance, a righteous spouse being a profound blessing. By making this dua, you are actively engaging with Allah, seeking His help in finding a spouse who is good for your dunya and akhirah, and embracing the new beginnings with His grace.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Tariq bin Ashyam that a man asked the Prophet (ﷺ): "What is the best that a person can ask for?" He said: 'Perfection (or 'Afiyah).' And when the Day of Resurrection dawns, none of you will be given anything better than perfection (or 'Afiyah)." In another narration, he said: 'O Allah, grant me 'Afiyah in my body. O Allah, grant me 'Afiyah in my hearing. O Allah, grant me 'Afiyah in my sight. There is no god but You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave. There is no god but You.' (Sunan Abu Dawud 5088). The version used here is a more comprehensive distillation of these requests, commonly taught by scholars as a foundational supplication encompassing multiple core needs.
