اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction before, during, and after submitting your job application. It's particularly potent when facing uncertainty about the outcome and when seeking Allah's guidance in choosing the right path.
How to Read
Make this dua after offering two rak'ahs of prayer, or at any time you can focus with a sincere heart. Raise your hands as you would during prayer, face the Qiblah if possible, and ask Allah with full reliance upon Him. It's also beneficial to combine this with a dua for istikhara (seeking guidance from Allah) if you are unsure whether to apply for a specific job.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua encompasses the core of what a believer seeks in this life and the next. Beneficial knowledge guides us to do what is right. Good provision sustains us and our families without leading to hardship or unlawful means. Acceptable deeds are those performed sincerely for Allah's pleasure, which He accepts and rewards. Seeking these through dua is a direct act of worship, acknowledging Allah's power and our dependence on Him.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when he commenced his prayer: 'Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdik, wa tabarakasmuk, wa ta'ala jadduka, wa la ilaha ghayruk' (Glory be to You, O Allah, and I praise You; blessed be Your name, and exalted be Your majesty; and there is no god but You). And when he finished his prayer, he would say the same words once, and then say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and acceptable deeds). (The narrator said: 'I think he said:) 'This is between the two commands' (meaning the two commands to recite).
