Dua for Guidance and Success in a New Relationship

New Beginnings
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 107

O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what You have naturally inclined it towards. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have naturally inclined it towards. O Allah, I ask You for it (the relationship/marriage) abundant good provision, accepted deeds, pure love, and a righteous connection.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabaltaha 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alayhi. Allahumma wa inni as'aluka laha rizqan tayyiban wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan, wa hubban zakiyyan, wa 'alaqatan salihan.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for reciting when embarking on a new relationship, whether it's a friendship, engagement, or marriage. It's especially relevant during the initial stages, when seeking Allah's blessings for the foundation of the connection. You can say it before making significant commitments, during times of uncertainty, or simply as a regular supplication for the well-being of the relationship.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. While there isn't a prescribed number of times, making it a habit, perhaps once daily or before important conversations, can be very beneficial. It's about asking Allah for His divine guidance, protection, and success in building a relationship that is pleasing to Him. Imagine laying the groundwork of your connection with the best intentions and seeking Allah's partnership in it.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks the best of both the inherent nature of the relationship and its future trajectory. It asks for protection against potential negative influences or inherent flaws. Crucially, it asks for provision ('rizq') not just in material terms, but also for a 'tayyib' (pure, good) provision in the relationship itself. It asks for 'accepted deeds' within the context of this connection, implying that the relationship should facilitate acts of worship and good character. It seeks 'pure love' ('hubban zakiyyan') and a 'righteous connection' ('alaqatan salihan'), ensuring the bond is built on strong, ethical, and spiritual foundations. This supplication is essentially asking Allah to bless the relationship and make it a source of good in this life and the next.

Source & Authentication

The Hadith this dua is derived from is about seeking Allah's blessings and protection when marrying. While the wording here has been adapted for the broader context of a new relationship, the essence remains the same: seeking the best from Allah and seeking refuge from His displeasure. (Note: The full hadith is typically narrated in the context of marriage, and the wording is generalized here to encompass the broader idea of a new relationship, seeking its goodness and protection from its potential evils, while also asking for righteous provision, deeds, love, and connection within it, which aligns with the spirit of seeking the best outcome from Allah for any significant human connection.)
