New Beginnings
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite when embarking on a new career path. Make it a habit to say it before you start your first day, or at any point where you feel uncertain about your new professional journey. It's also beneficial to say it consistently each morning, especially during the initial phase of your new career, to seek Allah's blessings and guidance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's ability to grant your requests. Raise your hands slightly, as is customary when making dua, and face the Qiblah if possible. Ensure you understand the meaning and feel the humility and dependence on Allah as you utter these words. Following this with specific personal requests for your new career enhances its effectiveness.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks three essential elements for success in any endeavor, including a new career: 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('ilman naafi'an):** This refers to knowledge that is useful in this life and the next, helping you to perform your job correctly and make sound decisions. 2. **Goodly Provision (rizqan tayyiban):** This encompasses all forms of sustenance – wealth, health, family, and well-being – that are pure, lawful, and blessed by Allah. 3. **Acceptable Deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan):** This means performing actions, in this case related to your work, that are accepted by Allah, meaning they are done with the right intention, according to His commands, and free from ostentation or corruption. Seeking these three from Allah ensures that your new career path is not only personally fulfilling but also pleasing to Him, leading to true success and contentment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say after the Fajr prayer: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.)
