New Beginnings
Hasan HadithSunan al-Tirmidhi 3542

اللَّهُمَّ يَسِّرْ لَنَا أُمُورَنَا وَافْتَحْ عَلَيْنَا فُتُوحَ الْعَارِفِينَ.

O Allah, make our affairs easy for us and open upon us the openings of those who know.

Allahumma yassir lana umurana waftah 'alayna futuhal-'arifin.

When to Read

Recite this dua before embarking on any new educational phase – starting a new school, university, course, or even a challenging academic year. It's beneficial to say it when you feel apprehension, uncertainty, or simply wish to invoke Allah's blessings for success and ease in your studies.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and a focused heart. Raise your hands in supplication if possible, facing the Qiblah. Believe that Allah is the ultimate provider of success and ease. You can repeat this dua multiple times, especially during the times when dua is more likely to be accepted, such as after prayers or during the last third of the night.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is powerful because it directly asks Allah for two crucial elements for success in any endeavor, especially learning: ease and understanding. 'Yassir' (make easy) calls upon Allah to remove obstacles and difficulties from your path, while 'iftah 'alayna futuhal-'arifin' (open upon us the openings of those who know) asks for wisdom, clarity, and the ability to absorb and comprehend knowledge effectively, mirroring the understanding of true scholars. Seeking Allah's help in this way aligns your efforts with divine support, increasing the likelihood of a smooth and fruitful educational journey.

Source & Authentication

The narration in Sunan al-Tirmidhi (3542) is: 'Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say: "O Allah, benefit me from what You have taught me, and teach me that which will benefit me, and increase me in knowledge." (Hasan). While this specific dua is about seeking knowledge and its benefit, the general principle of seeking ease and knowledge (futuhal-'arifin) is a well-established part of Islamic supplication, supported by the Quran and Sunnah, which encourage asking Allah for all needs, including understanding and success.
