New Beginnings
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 252

اللَّهُمَّ فَقِّهْنِي فِي الدِّينِ، وَعَلِّمْنِي التَّأْوِيلَ

O Allah, grant me deep understanding of the religion, and teach me the interpretation (of the Quran).

*Allahumma faqqihni fid-deen, wa 'allimnit-ta'weel*

When to Read

This powerful supplication is ideal for moments when you're embarking on a new chapter, seeking clarity, or feeling a desire to connect more deeply with the teachings of Islam. It's perfect for the start of a new month, a new phase in life, or anytime you consciously decide to deepen your understanding and foster empathy.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart. Imagine the knowledge and wisdom you seek flowing into you. Raising your hands slightly while making dua is an established practice, and maintaining a state of wudu (ritual purity) is recommended. Repeat it consistently, especially after your obligatory prayers, to make it a regular part of your spiritual journey.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly asks Allah for two profound gifts: 'fiqh' (deep understanding, especially of religious matters) and 'ta'weel' (the ability to interpret and comprehend the deeper meanings, particularly of the Quran). Such understanding cultivates wisdom, broadens perspective, and is the bedrock of true empathy. When we understand the 'why' behind actions and words, and grasp the nuances of divine guidance, we become more compassionate towards ourselves and others. This leads to better relationships, improved decision-making, and a more fulfilling connection with our faith.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to relieve himself, and I brought him water for ablution. He said: 'Who has taught this to you?' I said: 'Something I saw.' He said: 'O Allah, grant him understanding of the religion (fiqh) and teach him the interpretation (ta'weel).' Sunan Ibn Majah 252. It is classified as Hasan by many scholars.
