Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5087

In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahillladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited three times in the morning, after the Fajr prayer, as part of our daily remembrance of Allah. It's a beautiful way to start the day, seeking Allah's protection before any potential harm or mischief can reach us.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a firm belief in Allah's power to protect. Make sure to pronounce the Arabic words correctly. It's best recited as you begin your day, perhaps after Fajr or as you're preparing to leave your home. The act of reciting it is itself an act of seeking refuge in Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that whoever recites this dua three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity until the evening, and whoever recites it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any calamity until the morning. (Sunan Abi Dawud 5087). This protection extends to warding off physical harm, misfortune, and even the dreaded evil eye, as it places us under Allah's direct care and guardianship.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Aban bin 'Uthman: 'Uthman bin 'Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) suffered from a paralyzed leg. He was told, 'Why don't you have someone look at it?' He replied, 'Allah's Messenger ﷺ has said: 'He who says: 'In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,' three times, will not suffer from any calamity until the morning, and whoever says it in the morning will not be afflicted by calamity until the evening.' Aban said: 'So the 'Uthman recited it, and his leg became well.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5087 - Graded Hasan by some scholars).
