Dua for Patience Amidst Morning Delays

Daily Morning Routine
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 4423

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, offers comprehensive protection from inner turmoil and external pressures that can manifest as impatience. By seeking refuge from distress (hamm) and sorrow (hazan), you are asking Allah to ease your worries about what has happened or what might happen. Seeking refuge from incapacity ('ajz) and laziness (kasal) helps you maintain the energy and will to face tasks, even when delayed. Protection from cowardice (jubn) and stinginess (buhl) strengthens your resolve and generosity. Finally, seeking refuge from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men is a plea for relief from significant worldly burdens that can cause immense stress and impatience. Reciting this ensures your heart is grounded in Allah's protection from the outset of your day, fostering patience.
