اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This dua is recited upon waking in the morning, often after having recited Surah Al-Mulk during the night or before sleeping. It's a beautiful way to start your day by seeking Allah's blessings for your actions and provision.
How to Read
This is a beautiful supplication to make with sincerity and focus, ideally right after waking up. You can say it as you sit up, or even while still in bed. The key is the intention and the heartfelt request to Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates three essential aspects of a fulfilling life: beneficial knowledge that guides us, pure and lawful provision that sustains us, and deeds that are accepted by Allah, leading to success in this life and the hereafter. Reciting Surah Al-Mulk itself is known to protect from the punishment of the grave, and this dua complements that by seeking positive outcomes for our day.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When the Prophet (ﷺ) used to wake up in the night, he would start his prayer and say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.)' (Sahih Muslim 784). While the hadith mentions waking at night for prayer, the essence of seeking these three things upon waking is profoundly beneficial for the morning routine, especially for those who have established the practice of reciting Surah Al-Mulk before sleeping.
