Dua for Protection from the Heart's Hardness (Morning)

Daily Morning Routine
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1550

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear (You), from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a prayer that is not answered.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'ain la yusma'

When to Read

This dua is specifically recommended to be recited in the morning after the Fajr prayer. It's part of the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ continuous supplication for protection against various ills that can affect our spiritual well-being as we begin our day.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, reflecting on each phrase. Raise your hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. Focus on seeking Allah's protection from these specific spiritual ailments that can hinder our connection with Him and our progress in this life and the next.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua helps us actively seek Allah's protection from four significant spiritual dangers: useless knowledge, a hard heart lacking taqwa, insatiable desires, and unanswered prayers. A hard heart is one that is insensitive to reminders of Allah, unyielding to the truth, and incapable of feeling compassion or fear of Allah. By seeking refuge from this, we ask Allah to keep our hearts soft, responsive to guidance, and filled with His remembrance.

Source & Authentication

The narrator said: Abu Hurairah mentioned that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'ain la yusma'.
