Virtues & Benefits
This prayer encompasses the core elements of a righteous life. Seeking 'beneficial knowledge' ( 'ilman naafi'an) helps us understand our deen and the world around us, guiding us to what is pleasing to Allah. 'Goodly provision' ( rizqan tayyiban) ensures our sustenance is pure and blessed, free from unlawful earnings. Asking for 'acceptable deeds' ( 'amalan mutaqabbalan) means our worship and good works are accepted by Allah, which is the ultimate goal. By asking for these three, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a comprehensive way to seek the best in this life and the next right from the start of our day.
Source & Authentication
Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you wakes up in the morning, he should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds). If he dies on that day, he will die in a good state, and if he lives until the evening, he will attain good.' (Sahih Muslim 7:12)
