بِسْمِ اللهِ
In the name of Allah.
Bismillah
When to Read
This simple but profound dua is recited right before you begin eating your breakfast. It's a conscious act to imbue even the most ordinary moments of our day with Allah's remembrance.
How to Read
Say 'Bismillah' before taking your first bite. It's a verbal acknowledgment of Allah's provision and a request for His blessing in the food and in your day ahead. This practice is established from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for all eating occasions.
Virtues & Benefits
Invoking Allah's name at the start of eating brings His blessing (barakah) to the food. It also serves as a constant reminder that all sustenance comes from Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'When one of you eats, he should mention Allah's name. If he forgets to mention Allah's name at the beginning, he should say: *'Bismillahi awwaluhu wa akhiruhu'* (In the name of Allah, at the beginning and at the end).' — Sunan Abi Dawud 3767, also recorded in Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1781 (Hasan Sahih).
