O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite first thing in the morning, ideally after Fajr prayer or upon waking. It sets a positive tone for the day, seeking Allah's protection from internal struggles and external pressures that might affect one's confidence and interactions with others. You can make it a part of your morning routine to invoke Allah's help before facing the day's challenges, including social situations.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's power to protect and assist you. Face the Qiblah if possible, raise your hands slightly as you would in supplication, and repeat it with awareness of its meaning. Reflect on each phrase and truly ask Allah to shield you from the mentioned ailments that can contribute to feelings of awkwardness and unease in social settings.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking refuge in Allah from these specific ailments can directly combat the roots of social awkwardness. Anxiety and sorrow (hamm wa huzn) can lead to self-consciousness. Helplessness and laziness ('ajz wa kasal) can manifest as a lack of initiative or energy in social interactions. Cowardice (jubn) can prevent you from speaking up or engaging, and the 'oppression of men' (qahrur-rijal) can refer to the feeling of being intimidated or judged by others. By seeking Allah's protection, we ask Him to grant us inner peace, courage, and the ability to interact with others with ease and confidence.
