A Dua for Finding Inner Peace Amidst Morning Chaos

Daily Morning Routine
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 3110

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and being overcome by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This powerful dua is excellent to recite first thing in the morning, ideally right after waking up or before starting your daily tasks. The morning often brings a rush of thoughts and responsibilities, and seeking Allah's protection from worries, burdens, and difficulties at the very start of the day sets a tone of reliance and peace, helping to navigate the inevitable chaos with a calmer heart.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart, raising your hands if possible, as was the Prophet's ﷺ practice. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's protection. Imagine the worries and anxieties leaving you as you utter the words, replaced by a sense of reliance on the Almighty. It's best recited before engaging with the world's demands.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication is a comprehensive shield. By seeking refuge in Allah from distress and sorrow, we ask Him to lighten our mental and emotional burdens. Protection from helplessness and laziness empowers us to be productive and active. Seeking refuge from cowardice and stinginess helps us to be brave and generous. Finally, asking protection from overwhelming debt and being overcome by men guards us against significant worldly pressures and humiliation. Reciting this regularly can foster resilience and a deep sense of inner tranquility, knowing we've entrusted our affairs to Allah.
