Morning Dua: Rejecting Shirk and Affirming Tawhid

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2710

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating anything with You, knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min an ushrika bika shay'an wa ana a'lamu, wa astaghfiruka lima la a'lamu.

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited in the morning, as part of the supplications made upon waking and starting the day. It's a powerful way to begin your day by consciously acknowledging Allah's oneness and seeking protection from the most dangerous sin: shirk (associating partners with Allah).

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely after Fajr prayer or upon waking up in the morning. Utter the words with conviction, focusing on the meaning of seeking refuge in Allah and acknowledging His absolute sovereignty. It is best to say it with a present heart, truly feeling the need for Allah's protection from shirk, both overt and subtle.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the gravest sin in Islam, shirk, which invalidates all good deeds. By seeking refuge in Allah from associating partners with Him, even unknowingly, one fortifies their Tawhid (Oneness of Allah). It demonstrates humility and reliance on Allah for protection against a hidden danger. The latter part, seeking forgiveness for what is done unknowingly, encompasses all minor sins and shortcomings in fulfilling the rights of Allah and His creation, a crucial aspect of spiritual purity as we navigate our day.

Source & Authentication
