Morning Dua for the Companionship of the Righteous

Morning Adhkar
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is recited in the morning after Fajr prayer. It's a beautiful way to begin your day, asking Allah for blessings in your actions, your sustenance, and your understanding, which are all crucial for maintaining righteous company and conduct.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction after completing the Fajr prayer, ideally before engaging in any worldly activities. Focus on the meaning of each request: asking for knowledge that benefits you and others, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are accepted by Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encompasses three vital aspects of a Muslim's life: knowledge, provision, and deeds. Asking for 'beneficial knowledge' ('ilman naafi'an) is key, as true knowledge guides us towards Allah and helps us distinguish right from wrong. 'Good provision' (rizqan tayyiban) ensures that our sustenance is pure and brings blessings. The request for 'accepted deeds' ('amalan mutaqabbalan) is the ultimate aim, as our worship and actions are only valuable if accepted by Allah. By seeking these, we align ourselves with goodness, making it easier to connect with and maintain the company of the righteous, who themselves are striving for these same virtues.

The Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said: 'The Prophet ﷺ used to say when morning came: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds).' — Sunan Ibn Majah 925. Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) - the narrator mentions Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) in the hadith, but the correct narration is from Umm Salamah.
