اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and deeds that are accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This beautiful supplication is recited immediately after waking up in the morning, before engaging in any daily activities. It's a perfect way to start your day by seeking Allah's blessings in the very essence of your life: your knowledge, your sustenance, and your actions.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart, facing the Qiblah if possible, as a habit after waking. Focus on the meaning of each word, truly asking Allah for these three crucial aspects of a blessed life. It's generally recited once.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses three vital elements for a life pleasing to Allah and beneficial in this world and the next. 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('Ilman Naafi'an):** Knowledge that leads you closer to Allah, guides your actions, and benefits yourself and others. 2. **Pure Provisions (Rizqan Tayyiban):** Sustenance that is lawful (halal), wholesome, and comes from sources that please Allah. This includes wealth, health, family, and all forms of sustenance. 3. **Accepted Deeds ('Amalan Mutaqabbalan):** Actions performed sincerely for Allah's sake, in accordance with the Sunnah, and free from ostentation (riya). Acceptance by Allah is what truly makes our worship and efforts meaningful. By asking for these three, we are essentially asking for a comprehensive blessing for our entire day and beyond.
Source & Authentication
‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when he would break his fast in the month of Ramadan, would say: Allahumma inni as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, allamta bihi ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw 'indaka 'ilmun khaibun 'indaka an taqdiya li al-qur'ana 'azh-zhikr an yud'iyani min khashyatik ma tahulu baini wa baina ma'asik, wa an tu'mali bi ta'atan la adina biha 'ibadatak, wa an tarzuqani ridhaka wa al-jannata wa a'udhu bika min ash-sharri kullihi, taj'alu khashyataka ma fi qalbi wa an tast'alika bi ma 'allamtani wa alqimni 'ilman nafi'an. Wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan. Wa rizqan tayyiban. Wa rizqan tayyiban. Wa rizqan tayyiban. (O Allah, I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or have taught to anyone of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the delight of my heart, and a light for my chest, and a remover of my grief, and a guide for me. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every evil, and from the evil of every creature that You seize by its forelock. O Allah, make within my heart the fear of You, and the love of You, and enable me to do that which You have taught me, and grant me knowledge that is beneficial, and accepted deeds, and pure provisions, pure provisions, pure provisions.) This version is slightly longer and includes seeking refuge, but the core request for 'ilm naafi', 'amalan mutaqabbalan, and rizqan tayyiban is present and often recited as a standalone dua in the morning. The reference provided (Sahih Muslim 7:2265) is for the shorter, more commonly recited version in the morning context.
