Morning Dua for Protection from Evils and Temptations

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5088

In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth nor in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahilladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Samee'ul-'Aleem.

When to Read

Recite this supplication three times in the morning after Fajr prayer, and again in the evening after Asr prayer. It is a powerful shield against all kinds of harm, including the subtle temptations that can lead us astray throughout the day.

How to Read

Recite it sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's power to protect. Utter the words clearly and with presence of heart. This dua is particularly potent when we are feeling vulnerable or aware of potential 'fitan' (trials and temptations) approaching.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to safeguard us from all manner of evil, both seen and unseen. Its recitation ensures that no harm will come to us by the decree of Allah. This includes protection from physical harm, envy, ill intentions of others, and importantly, the whispers of Shaytan that fuel temptations. By invoking Allah's name in this way, we acknowledge His absolute dominion and power, seeking His direct intervention for our well-being and spiritual fortitude.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever says 'Bismillahilladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa Huwas-Samee'ul-'Aleem' three times every morning, will not be afflicted by any calamity unexpectedly until the evening. And whoever says it three times in the evening, will not be afflicted by any calamity unexpectedly until the morning." Sunan Abi Dawud 5088. Graded Sahih by Al-Albani.
