Dua & Sunnah

Morning Dua for a Clear and Sound Mind

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah (also narrated in Sahih Muslim) 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is specifically recommended to be recited after the Fajr (dawn) prayer. It's a powerful way to start your day, seeking Allah's blessings for your intellect, your livelihood, and your actions. Imagine greeting the new day not just with your eyes open, but with your intention and your heart directed towards seeking what is good and pleasing to Him.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely after you finish your obligatory Fajr prayer. It's best to do this while still in your prayer place, perhaps after the concluding *tasleem*. Face the Qiblah if possible, maintain a state of Wudu (ritual purity), and let the meaning of the words sink into your heart. Think about what 'beneficial knowledge' means to you, how you hope for 'goodly provision' that is pure and lawful, and that your 'deeds' are accepted by Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive request for well-being in this life and the next. 'Beneficial knowledge' (`ilman naafi'an`) is knowledge that leads you closer to Allah, improves your understanding of the Deen, and guides you to act righteously. 'Goodly provision' (`rizqan tayyiban`) isn't just about wealth, but about sustenance that is pure, lawful, and brings peace and satisfaction. 'Acceptable deeds' (`'amalan mutaqabbalan`) are those actions that Allah is pleased with, those that are done with sincerity and in accordance with the Sunnah. By asking for these three things, you are setting the foundation for a day, and indeed a life, that is aligned with Allah's pleasure.

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed the morning prayer, he would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, sustenance that is pure, and deeds that are acceptable.'
