Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to love to say at the beginning of his supplication and at the end of his supplication: O Allah, I ask for guidance, piety, chastity and richness. And he narrated it in the wording of Abu Bakr: O Allah, I ask for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught us supplication and said: You should not say: O Allah, forgive me if You wish, O Allah, show mercy to me if You wish; but you should beg of Him in earnest, for there is no compeller with Allah. He also taught us: O Allah, I ask You for Your mercy, by which You have encompassed Your Throne, and by Your knowledge, which has encompassed Your Throne, and by Your grace, and Your forgiveness, and Your compassion, and Your good pleasure, and Your wish, and Your power, and Your command, and Your greatness, and Your dominion, and Your light, and Your bounty, and Your beauty, and Your praiseworthiness, and Your bounty, and Your sustenance, and Your pleasure, and Your love, and Your success which You have given to Your creatures from the beginning and at the end. And he said: And he should beg of Allah with resolve, for there is no compeller with Allah. And he asked Allah by His Most Beautiful Names and His loftiest attributes. And he also narrated: Allahumma ahsanta khalqi fa hassin khuluqi. (O Allah, You have made my form beautiful, so make my character beautiful too.)
