Looking in Mirror
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 21504

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي فَأَحْسِنْ خُلُقِي

Praise be to Allah. O Allah, just as You have made my form good, make my character good.

Alhamdulillah, Allahumma kama ahsanta khalqi fa ahsin khuluqi

When to Read

This dua is recited when looking at one's reflection, particularly when grooming or preparing for the day. It's a moment to reflect not just on our outward appearance, which Allah has beautified, but also on our inner character and conduct. It serves as a powerful reminder of our dual responsibility: to maintain our physical well-being and, more importantly, to strive for excellence in our character and actions as a form of stewardship from Allah.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and contemplation, ideally immediately after noticing your reflection. Pause for a moment to consider Allah's blessing in giving you a presentable form and then actively think about the qualities you wish to cultivate or improve in your character. This mindful recitation amplifies its impact, turning a routine action into a spiritual exercise.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua reminds us that outward beauty is a gift from Allah, but inner beauty – good character – is what truly matters and is within our power to cultivate through His help. It encourages humility and gratitude for our physical form, while simultaneously prompting us to actively seek improvement in our manners, ethics, and overall conduct. By asking Allah to improve our character just as He perfected our form, we acknowledge His power over both and express our reliance on Him for spiritual growth. This practice aligns with the Sunnah of striving for excellence in all aspects of our lives, honoring the trust (amanah) Allah has placed upon us as His vicegerents on Earth.
