Dua for Remembering Resurrection When Seeing Signs of Aging

Looking in Mirror
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3862

All praise is for Allah in every state, and I ask Him for an increase in faith and certainty, and I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil.

Al-hamdu lillahi 'ala kulli hal, wa as'aluhu ziyadatan minal-imani wal-yaqin, wa a'udhu billahi minash-shaitanir-rajim

When to Read

This dua is beneficial to recite when looking in the mirror, particularly as one notices the natural signs of aging. It's a moment to reflect on the transient nature of this life and the enduring reality of the Hereafter. Seeing wrinkles or gray hairs can be a poignant reminder of our return to Allah, prompting us to strengthen our faith and certainty.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and contemplation. Start by acknowledging Allah's blessings in all circumstances. Then, consciously ask for an increase in faith and firm conviction in the unseen, especially the Day of Resurrection. Finally, seek refuge from Shaytan, who may try to fill our hearts with despair or vanity regarding our appearance.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encourages gratitude for Allah's blessings, regardless of outward appearances or the passage of time. It fosters a deeper connection with Allah by asking for strengthened faith and certainty, which are essential for facing the Day of Judgment. Seeking refuge from Shaytan helps protect us from negative thoughts that might arise from seeing signs of aging, such as vanity or despondency.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'The believer is always in a good state, for if he is tested with hardship, he is patient, and that is good for him. If he is blessed with ease, he is grateful, and that is good for him. And this is for no one except the believer. And he said: Praise be to Allah in every state, and I ask Allah for an increase in faith and certainty, and I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed devil.'
