Dua for Remembering Allah When Seeing Your Reflection

Looking in Mirror
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 22609

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، اَللَّهُمَّ كَمَا أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي فَأَحْسِنْ خُلُقِي

Praise be to Allah. O Allah, just as You have made my form beautiful, so make my character beautiful.

Alhamdulillahi, Allahumma kama ahsanta khalqi, fa ahsin khuluqi.

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is recited when looking at one's reflection, whether in a mirror or any reflective surface. It's a moment to pause and connect your outward appearance to your inner state, reminding you of Allah's blessings and your responsibility to cultivate good character.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and contemplation. As you look at your reflection, consciously connect the praise of Allah for your physical form with the request for Him to beautify your inner self – your manners, actions, and intentions. Let it be a moment of mindfulness, turning a mundane act into an opportunity for spiritual growth.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a profound spiritual principle: acknowledging Allah's creation of our outward selves and seeking His assistance to perfect our inner selves. It reminds us that true beauty lies not just in appearance, but in virtuous character and pleasing conduct. By asking Allah to 'make my character beautiful,' we are seeking to embody the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which emphasized good manners as a cornerstone of our faith. It's a direct way to link the physical blessings we see to the spiritual development we strive for, ensuring our focus remains on pleasing our Creator.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he looked at himself in the mirror: 'Alhamdulillahi, Allahumma kama ahsanta khalqi, fa ahsin khuluqi.' (Praise be to Allah. O Allah, just as You have made my form beautiful, so make my character beautiful.)
