اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِيْ فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِيْ
All praise is for Allah. O Allah, just as You have made my form beautiful, make my character beautiful.
*Alhamdulillah, Allahumma kama hassanta khalqi, fa hassin khuluqi*
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited when looking in a mirror. It’s a moment many of us take for granted, perhaps just a quick glance to check our appearance. But think about it: that face looking back at you, with all its features, the intricate details of eyes, nose, mouth – it’s all a masterful creation by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala). This dua turns a mundane act into an act of remembrance and gratitude. It's a reminder of our Creator's artistry and a heartfelt plea for inner beauty to match our outer form.
How to Read
Recite this dua after you have finished adjusting your appearance in the mirror. It's a personal reflection, so say it with sincerity and mindfulness. Focus on the meaning: acknowledging Allah's perfect creation of your physical self, and then earnestly asking Him to beautify your character, your manners, and your inner self. It’s about seeking a holistic beauty – outward and inward – that pleases Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua offers a powerful way to connect with Allah through a simple daily act. By reciting it, we: 1. **Express Gratitude:** We acknowledge Allah's blessing in creating us with a unique form. It’s easy to forget that our very existence, our features, are gifts. 2. **Seek Inner Perfection:** The request to beautify our character (akhlaq) is profound. It’s a supplication for good manners, kindness, patience, honesty, and all the qualities that make a person beloved to Allah and people. 3. **Maintain Humility:** While acknowledging Allah’s beautification of our physical form, we simultaneously ask for moral excellence, preventing arrogance and vanity that can arise from focusing only on outward appearance. 4. **Reinforce Tawhid (Oneness of Allah):** By attributing the creation and the power to beautify (both physically and morally) solely to Allah, we strengthen our belief in His unique dominion.

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked in the mirror, he would say: اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِيْ فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِيْ (Alhamdulillah, Allahumma kama hassanta khalqi, fa hassin khuluqi).
