Dua for Allah's Protection Over One's Eyes When Looking in the Mirror

Looking in Mirror
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5452

O Allah, make faith beloved to us and adorn our hearts with it, and make disbelief, sin, and disobedience hateful to us, and make us among those who are rightly guided.

Allahumma habbib ilaynal-imani wa zayyinhu fi qulubina, wa karrih ilaynal-kufra wal-fusuqa wal-'isyan, waj'alna minar-rashidin

When to Read

This dua is beneficial to recite when looking in the mirror, particularly when feeling vanity or self-admiration. It serves as a powerful reminder to ground oneself in faith and seek Allah's guidance away from negative inclinations.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and reflection as you look at your reflection. Understand the meaning of each phrase and ask Allah with conviction. It's best recited in Arabic.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication helps to purify intentions, guard against arrogance and vanity, and strengthen one's connection to Allah. By asking Allah to make faith beloved and its opposites hateful, we are actively seeking His help in maintaining our spiritual well-being and staying on the straight path.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us this dua. It's part of a broader teaching about asking Allah to make faith desirable and sin detestable. When we look at ourselves, it's easy to be impressed by outward appearances or accomplishments. This dua redirects our focus inward, towards the state of our hearts and our relationship with Allah. It's a beautiful way to start or end a moment of self-observation, ensuring it remains pleasing to our Creator.
